DGMOSFET Transistor Architecture

A fundamentally different approach to photovoltaic conversion based on the optical field-effect transistor.

The Fundamental Principle

Unlike conventional solar cells that use a simple passive PN junction, our technology uses a field-effect transistor (FET) where light acts directly as the gate signal. The DGMOSFET (Double Gate MOSFET) architecture allows active control and amplification of photocurrent, resulting in drastically superior conversion efficiency.

A water cooling channel is machined directly into the aluminum frame of each tile. Water circulates through connected tiles, dissipating heat and maintaining optimal efficiency even in full summer sun. The standard 3/4" fitting adapts to any garden hose.

Double-gate field effect
Two insulated gates surround the doped silicon channel. Biasing both gates simultaneously drives the electric field through the entire active volume rather than a single junction, forming a far wider depletion region that collects more photo-generated electron-hole pairs.
Band-gap engineering
The stack combines materials with complementary band gaps (Si ~1.1 eV and FeS2 pyrite ~0.95 eV) to capture a wider slice of the solar spectrum ? from near-infrared to visible ? where a single-material cell would let energy pass through.
Quantum double-pass
A rear silver mirror reflects unabsorbed photons back through the active channel a second time. This double-pass increases the optical interaction length without thickening the cell, boosting absorption of weakly-absorbed wavelengths.
Active thermal management
An integrated water loop (PV-T) removes heat continuously. Every ?C avoided preserves output (conventional cells lose ~0.3-0.4%/?C), and the recovered heat can be reused for hot water.
